Surge
“Surge” was inspired by the beaches of Suao and Nanfanou, with their unbelievable blue oceans and soaring black cliffs. I loved how the shape of the tetrahedron concrete blocks resembled the surrounding rock formations. They looked like a giant’s toy blocks stacked up against the seawall. I reimagined the patterns and forms into the hair and crown of a sea goddess protecting the landscape from the surge of the ocean and winds; Using patterns and color of a place to explore the greater meaning of transition, time and memory. Surge is not only about water, but about the tumultuous dance between love and wanting
